There is A LOT going on in my personal life right now, but I wanted to post a quick update reminding my followers and visitors to my site that I still have six gerbils waiting on homes! Yes, the two males are the same color, but as someone who owns twin spotted Siamese boys, being the same color doesn’t mean you can’t tell them apart. They have such unique personalities and shouldn’t be passed up just because they look alike. They’re very sweet boys. 🙂
I would prefer that my PEW (Pink Eyed White) female and her black sister go to a home that has gerbil experience, as they are very unique girls with some funny quirks that may bother someone who isn’t dedicated. They are very sweet, no behavior issues! But the PEW sways when she stands (which is normal for her color) and the little black girl is a bit of a runt and will always be kind of small. I’m just concerned that someone who isn’t a true gerbil person will find those quirks kind of worrisome.
Anyway, please do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested in adopting any of my babies! Looking forward to sending them off to their forever homes! 🙂

Adopt as Established Same Gender Pair Only:
1 Lilac (grey) Female (DOB: 7/11/14)
1 Pink Eyed White Female DOB: 8/20/14– As is normal with PEW gerbils, this little girl has a sway when she stands up or sits back on her haunches. Tilts over to one side slightly. Many PEW gerbils have this, a common quirk of their color variety.
I am no longer breeding gerbils. The above are ALL I HAVE LEFT. Due to difficulty placing gerbils in homes, I can no longer afford to breed them. Once these guys are gone, I will just have my 5 males as pets. Feel free to contact me with comments, questions or concerns about your gerbils or gerbils you’ve adopted from me in the past. Thanks!

Recently while trying to calculate how long I’ve worked at my current job, I realized that I’ve owned my sweetest gerbil, Henry, for right at a year!
He’s a gorgeous pet store purchased Red Fox boy, and he’s my baby. I finally got to breed him, and his pups inherited his calm and gentle disposition as well. He’s a sweetie.
Happy One Year Anniversary, Henry! ^_^

Looking for a quick, no fuss shopping list of the must haves and the good ideas for getting your first gerbils? Something you can have ready on your smart phone or printed out?
Look no farther!
The Must Haves:
One ten gallon aquarium/terrarium
One screen lid that fits the tank mentioned above
Bedding– Preferably paper, I recommend Kaytee “Clean & Cozy” unscented bedding
Water Bottle –Glass, or equipped with a metal guard to prevent chewing
Food–Gerri Gerbil or Vitacraft’s “Mouse, Rat & Gerbil” food
Chews–Pet safe wood or lava block
Hide House–Wood/Plastic composite or ceramic will last the longest
“Gerbil Dust”–Sold as Chinchilla dust, to be given once a week in a glass bowl for bathing
Exercise Wheel–Metal mesh or “Silent Spinner” style wheels only
The Good Ideas
Play Pen–Make sure it is made for small rodents such as hamsters, or the bar spacing may be too large
Food Dish–Though not required, this does help maintain a cleaner habitat and allow you to know how much your gerbils are eating
Tank Topper (found primarily online)– a tank topper allows for more space for your new friends to roam!
Pet safe habitat cleaner– You can used Windex, but be sure it is completely wiped clean to avoid possible ingestion
Treats– Sold in the small pet isle, Yogurt drops and other treats can be great ways to bond with your new friends
Freebies
Toilet Paper rolls, small cardboard boxes and bits of paper make great toys, so long as they are not wax coated
Shredded Documents make fun nesting and chewing items, but again, make sure they are not treated with any kind of coating
And that’s it! Not including tax, your typical cost effective gerbil setup is about $45-$60 bucks depending on what kinds/brands you choose. (Compared to a guinea pigs whopping $150-$250 price range, that is a cheap pet!)
Check out this post for a more detailed description of the items mentioned above, and the “why’s” behind them.

My newest litter (technically litter 1.01. As in pair one, litter one) is doing wonderfully! I’m slightly disappointed that it looks like two of them will be solid black. No markings, and a common color. We shall see!
Another breeder on Facebook says that the brown ones will be Agouti. For which I am hoping she is wrong.

Amy & Rory are expecting their first litter soon! She is a whopping 84grams! Two grams over River’s weight the day she had her pups. She’s built a huge nest already, her due date is the 21st. Looking forward to meeting her lovely pups, I do hope she will be just as good of a mother as her sister.
Tomorrow I am going to take some pictures of River’s pups that I think will be super cute! Tonight I am just too tired. Work has wiped me out. It’s time for a warm couch and a soft blanket, and perhaps some aspirin.

(For those of you who do not understand the title, it’s a Doctor Who quote by the character Clara Oswald.)
Meet the newest member of The Happy Gerbil Clan! This is Clara! Officially Clara Oswald. Unless I am somehow drastically incorrect about the gender of this little cutie (and I don’t think I am), she will be staying with us and eventually paired with my sweet boy Henry. Clara, who’s grandfather and both parents carry the spotted gene, and sporting the spots herself, will hopefully be a prime candidate to pass that on even though Henry is not spotted. Spotted burmese gerbils are pretty rare, and very striking. I’m in love with this girl. I cannot wait to see her after her first molt. (A point at which color point gerbils mature and get their dark color points.) I’ve named her Clara because, firstly, it continues my Doctor Who themed trend, and second, I never imagined I’d be able to produce such a color. It was a goal, but not one I thought I’d achieve. She’s my “impossible girl”. 🙂 (Another Doctor Who reference!)
